The challenge

School dropout in adolescence is not solely an educational issue. It is a consequence of environments that do not listen, do not represent, and do not inspire.

In the Dominican Republic, thousands of adolescents abandon the education system between the ages of 15 and 17, trapped between socioeconomic barriers, lack of motivation, and schools that, while functional, do not consider the emotional, cognitive, and social diversity of those who inhabit them. The school, more than a place for transmitting knowledge, becomes a space of inspiration.

The Question Guiding the Project

What if school stopped being a rigid space and transformed into a living environment capable of retaining, inspiring, and supporting?

This proposal stems from a clear conviction: the design of educational spaces, when integrated with pedagogy, neurodevelopment, and technology, can become an active tool against school dropout.

Multidisciplinary Vision

This proposal is built from the integration of four fundamental disciplines:

Architecture as a pedagogical tool

Spaces cease to be neutral and become flexible, inclusive, and emotionally aware scenarios, capable of supporting decision-making, autonomy, and emotional stability in adolescents.

Neurodevelopment as the basis of design

Each environment responds to the cognitive and emotional needs specific to this life stage, fostering motivation, creativity, and active learning.

Technology as an extension of space

Augmented and virtual reality are integrated daily, expanding possibilities for exploration, personalized learning, and connection with new vocations.

Technical and professional vocation

Spaces awaken interests, strengthen practical skills, and connect students with real scenarios from the working and creative world.

Foreseen Impact

The proposal does not seek to build more, but to reimagine what already exists. Classrooms, hallways, courtyards, and common areas transform into environments that respond to diverse learning styles and personalities:

  • Concentration and individual workspaces
  • Collaborative areas for exchange and problem-solving
  • Creativity, art, and experimentation zones
  • Open, flexible spaces adaptable over time

This transformation delivers impact across key dimensions:

Social
Strengthening belonging and reducing dropout rates.
Economic
Building a more skilled workforce for the future.
Cultural
Weaving in local identity and community pride.
Educational
Aligning space, pedagogy, and technology seamlessly.
